  • Package demanded for industry

    Dec 14th, 2015

Private sector cashew processors say that instead of discriminating between private and public sectors, the State government should declare a package for the cashew industry in the larger interest of saving the sector from closure and stopping migration to other States.

The processors say the State move to prop up the public sector Kerala State Cashew Development Corporation with yet another financial support of Rs.165 crore will meet the same fate of earlier funds which resulted in the KSCDC making an accumulated loss of over Rs.1,100 crore over the years. The KSCDC has only about 12,000 cashew workers whereas there are about three lakh cashew workers in the State and the majority of them depends on the private sector.
