  • Oregon hazelnut production increased by 40 percent in 2016

    Feb 9th, 2017

Oregon hazelnut growers saw a very good year in 2016 charting a 40% increase in production when compared to 2015.The state’s hazelnut harvest totaled 43,300 tons and outperformed the United States Department of Agriculture projection by 14 percent, the Capital Press reported. That is a significant improvement over 2015, when the crop was 25 percent short of the USDA estimate.

Farmer Garry Rodakowski of Vida says that, while the large supply is good news, they have yet to see how new strains resistant to the Eastern filbert blight will yield, which could help increase yields in the future.
