The Bantakal-based SMV Institute of Technology and
Management (SMVITM) has signed an MoU with a manufacturing unit, Vinayaka
Engineering Works (VEW), in order to further academic work and research
activities of its Research and Development Centre for Technology Upgradation of
Cashew Processing Equipment.
According to a press release issued by the institute
here on Tuesday, the Mangaluru-based VEW has recognized SMVITM as its academic
and research partner. VEW produces cashew processing equipment and machinery.
The MoU allows the institute’s students to pursue internships, project works
and do industrial visits at VEW. As a research partner, SMVITM will also get
assistance in research, design and development activities.
The recently inaugurated centre at SMVITM has
already initiated its activities, responding to the needs of local cashew
processing industries. It is sponsored by Karnataka Council for Technology
Upgradation (KCTU). Both the KCTU and SMVITM have contributed an equal amount
for setting up the centre.
The MoU between the industry and institution would
help in furthering research in the field through students’ involvement
utilising the experience of industry experts and knowledge of faculty members
of the institute.
Vishwavallabha Tirtha Swami, president of SSMV
Education Trust, Ratnakumar, Secretary, Radhakrishna S. Aithal, Director of
Institute, Thirmaleshwar Bhat, Principal, Vivekanand Huddar, Head of the
