In March 2018, the government introduced an export tax on raw cashew exports up to CFAF 35 per kilo in order to support the development of the sector (see Burkina Faso tax FCFA 35 per kilo cashew nuts exported ). The third largest agricultural export product, after cotton and sesame, cashew is still a weak sector, with low yields, processing and marketing. However, cashew production increased by 13% in 2018 to 85,000 tonnes and the processing rate from 40% to 7,000 tonnes, or about 8% of raw cashew nuts.
