  • Burkina Faso: the kilogram of raw cashew nuts set at 330 FCFA

    The 2020 raw cashew marketing campaign was launched this Saturday, February 29, 2020 in Orodara in Kénédougou where, the price per kilogram of cashew nuts at the field edge was set at 330 FCFA The third agricultural export product after cotton and sesame, the cashew nut is a sector that contributes to poverty reduction and is today presented as a product with high economic potential for the producing areas and for Burkina Faso. Its production, concentrated in the Hauts-Bassins, Cascades and South-West regions, has increased in recent years. It increased from 50,000 tonnes in 2012 to more than 100,000 tonnes in 2017.

    During the same period, exports in value of cashew nuts increased from 16 billion CFA francs in 2012 to around 67 billion CFA francs in 2016, representing growth of more than 32% per year. In 2018, data from the Balance of Trade of Burkina Faso show that the export of this product generated 117.11 billion against 99.56 billion CFA francs in 2017, an increase of 15%. In the dynamics of development of the sector, it has been instituted since 2018, a levy on exports of raw cashew nuts. Since the introduction of the levy in 2018 and until the date of January 6, 2020, the amount "of the resources collected by the technical services is 5,684,853,095 FCFA". This sum should make it possible to carry out actions in the direction of the consolidation of the sector.
