Indian Cashew - Packing Standards

General Packing Standards followed:

  • Cashew kernels exported in bulk are generally packed in four-gallon prime tins with a net weight of 11.34 Kg (Or 25 lbs) in each tin.

  • The filled tins are vacuumised and filled with carbon-di-oxide gas and sealed.

  • For export, two tins containing cashews of same grade are packed as a single carton (corrugated fibre board cartons). The net weight of each carton is thus 22.68 Kg (50 lbs ).

  • The corrugated fibre board used for packing sealed tins shall be of double wall corrugated fibre board suitable for a mass content of 25 kg (as per IS: 2771). The length, breadth and height of the carton should be 490mm, 240 mm and 350 mm respectively. The overall volume of the carton should be 0. 041 Cu. M/Carton.

  • Cashew Kernels of only one grade can be packed in a carton.

  • These cartons are shipped in 20 feet containers, which can carry 650-700 cartons at a time.

  • Some manufacturers also pack in tins of 10kg net to suit the requirements of buyers in certain markets. Recently, some exporters have started using flexible packs instead of tins as many buyers opt for new generation flexible packs.
