The government of Guinea-Bissau plans to provide the
country with an Agency for Promotion of Exports and Entrepreneurial
Development, according to an order from the Ministry of Commerce and
Handicraft, to which Macauhub had access on Tuesday.
To this end, a seminar on the validation of the
economic feasibility study for the creation of the new agency, organised by the
ministry in which technicians from various public and private institutions are
taking part.
A document signed by Minister Vicente Fernandes said
the creation of the agency has already received funding, of an undisclosed
amount, from the Trade and Competitiveness Support Programme for the West
African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA).
According to a statement, the creation of the new
agency, which will have the technical assistance of the International Trade
Center (CCI), aims to strengthen the National System to Support the Development
and Promotion of Exports and ensure the country’s active and efficient
participation in the network of trade promotion bodies on an UEMOA level.
A technical mission of the CCI visited Guinea-Bissau
in October 2017 and consulted with a number of with public and private trade
support institutions, organisations and development partners to identify areas
that needed to be studied to set up the institution.
At the time, the mission also carried out a
cost-benefit analysis, as well as the companies’ needs for export support
services and the institutional architecture of the organisations involved in
export promotion.
